Byzantine tower, Nea Fokea

10 kilometers south of Nea Potidea in the peninsula of Kassandra, right at the beach of the neighboring village of Nea Fokea, you can visit the Byzantine tower of 17 meters height. The tower was built around 1407 in order to protect the glebe of the Monastery of Saint Paul of the Mount Athos. It is also the tower that Emmanouil Papas, a great leader of the Greek War of Indepedence in Chalkidiki, used as his command center during the war. Next to the tower still stands a small but brilliant church of the 12 Apostols that also belonged to the glebe but was built later, at around 1868.
